![Carl Weathers was best known for the role of “Apollo Creed” that he portrayed in the Rocky films (starring Sylvester Stallone). The Ebony to Rocky’s Ivory (pun intended) Weathers masterfully supported Sly in these iconic films about love, socio economic struggle, alcoholism and various types of abuse. These films were shot when relationships between people of color, italians and irish-americans didn’t necessarily get along that well. The film still can teach us that even though our differences on the outside seem limitless… at our core our hearts beat the same. OK, now seriousness aside. The Weathers dropped lines on us like:
”[Screaming] There is no tomorrow! THERE IS NO TOMORROW! THERE IS NO TOMORROW”
Apollo: [His last words] I want you to promise me you’re not gonna stop this fight, no matter what. No matter what!
He also was in…
PREDATOR with the Governator! Now granted he died quasi-early in the film… I mean… he WAS the black dude. Dear civil rights activists… please add “sustainability of african-american movie characters” to our list of ways to make the world a better place (sarcasm… kinda).
Anyways, Rocky, Predator (probably one of the most violent movies at that time) and a golf savant in “Happy Gilmore” … what has Weathers NOT done.
Now Weathers hasn’t done much in recent history… he’s kinda washed up… but whether its with a wooden hand and a golf club, or with the hammer hands he destroyed Rocky with in “Rocky” (the first film that made me shed a tear)… Weathers still packs a serious punch and therefore… is … still… AWESOME!](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1az2mfPAr1qbkch2o1_400.jpg)

I’m not gonna front…I have an XBox 360, I download extra DLC content for my games, everything I play is in HD, BUT… all that was built on the foundation that all of these systems built. Atari, Sega Master System, Nintendo, Genesis, Super Nintendo… etc… These systems are pretty much obsolete, but I’d be lying if I told you that I haven’t played Streets of Rage a couple time in the past year! All these consoles… #washedupbutstillawesome.

There’s so much of the story that is untold… OK, maybe the acting wasn’t great (it was terrible), BUT if you weren’t cheering for Frank Dukes when Chong Li threw that poison dust in his eyes… YOU HAVE NO SOUL. Yes, Jean-Claude is washed up, but he’ll scissor kick your face off while drinking a budweiser.
